Upcoming event in 2011 — Medicines, Long-term Care and Home Care: The Impact of Keeping Them Out of the Medicare Model
The fourth annual roundtable discussion of the MUHC-ISAI will take place in Montreal on October 20, 2011.
The purpose of this session is to explore the impact of keeping medicines, long-term care and home care outside the Canada Health Act (CHA). At present, each province approaches the provision and coverage of these services in their own way, according to their resources and priorities.
The discussion will be chaired by the Honourable Arthur T. Porter, P.C. MD, Director General and Chief Executive Officer, McGill University Health Centre; and Dr. Philippe Couillard, Senior Fellow in Health Law, Research Group on Health and Law, McGill University. Participants will discuss how the different approaches to the provision of medicines, long-term care and home care impact on health system effectiveness and health equity. They will examine the potential advantages and disadvantages of bringing medicines and long-term care/home care under the Medicare umbrella. They will also look at what we can learn from the models that have evolved to see if they hold lessons for improving the way we provide services that are covered under the CHA. .
