Community engagement: an indispensable contribution to our healthcare system

Community engagement takes many forms, from volunteers in hospital wards, to donors and fundraisers, to the advisors who contribute their leadership to committees and boards that help the hospital meet community needs. This report brings together work undertaken by the MUHC-ISAI and HIF to explore community engagement at the MUHC and arrive at a common vision that will focus efforts within and outside the hospital.

A state-of-the-art hospital laboratory

This case study, prepared by Health Innovation Forum with contributions from Dr. Elizabeth MacNamara, Director of Diagnostic Medicine at the JGH, and Mr. Ian Parfrement, President and General Manager at Roche Diagnostics, traces how the laboratory at Montreal’s Jewish General Hospital (JGH) integrates advances in Roche technology to improve access to tests and expand diagnostic capabilities. — Produced as part of the series: “Partnerships to Enhance Health System Performance.”

A strategic approach to globalization for Québec

Mr. Bernard Lord, Special Advisor, MUHC-ISAI, brought together four distinguished experts at the 2012 conference of the MUHC-ISAI to explore what actions need to be taken to enable healthcare institutions in Québec to strategically expand their international activities and partnerships. Panelists were Dr. Fabrice Brunet, Director General of the CHU Sainte-Justine; Ms. Lise Denis, Director General of the AQESSS; Ms. Maria Mastracchio-Lafontaine, Co-chair of the MUHC Users’ Committee; and Dr. Wendy Thomson, Director of the School of Social Work, McGill University and Chair of the Expert panel on activity-based funding.
